Mercedes-Benz has realized that developments in design occur at the confluence of consumer desire, commercial feasibility, and technological possibility. These three are incorporated into design thinking, an approach to product design that was developed in the 1950s and has been through a gradual evolution ever since. Tim Brown, CEO of IDEO, a global design organization states that design thinking is "a human-centered approach to innovation that draws from the designer's toolkit to merge the needs of people, the potential of technology, and the requirements for commercial success," (BROWN, n.d.). The core business processes of today are undergoing widespread change due to a developing trend. This is causing a change in how those in executive positions think, as well as how design and product teams carry out their duties. Some people have even come to believe that user experience is valuable and are, as a result, investing in ways to improve the customer experience.
